IF LEGISLATURE MANDATES NEW ELECTION BOARD ON LAKE COUNTY, WHO’S NEXT?

WAUKEGAN – Taxpayers just north of Chicago in Lake County will be paying over half a million dollars for a new election-supervising entity thrust specifically on their county by the Illinois General Assembly if Governor Pat Quinn signs into law HB 2418 this weekend, as he’s expected to do.

The section of HB 2418 making Illinois the 18th state to offer online voter registration is getting the most mainstream media attention, but Lake County Republicans say the precedent being set with the unfunded mandate on a specific county may have an equal impact in the future.

Democrats will be putting on Lake County an unfunded mandate many see as a personal vendetta against the Lake County clerk, who has stood up to Democrat election bullies time and time again.  The whole situation, they tell IR, begs the question, “What county is protected from the same thing happening to them if the Democrats controlling the state legislature set their crosshairs on them? What county could be next?
